On Saturday, December 5, Pease Park Conservancy and Austin Youth Fitness host a free Cycle the City session for kids ages 5 to 13 who already ride confidently. The morning starts at Pease Park with a safety talk covering rules of the road and the group's riding-as-a-team rules, then coaches lead the kids out on a ride from Pease to another Austin park or landmark along the city's urban trails, so young riders get to be tourists in their own city. Routes run from about 4 to 9 miles depending on the ages and skill of the group, which makes this a good stretch for school-age kids who have outgrown laps around the block. Riders should be able to handle roads and trails comfortably; children still learning to ride are better suited to the program's beginner sessions. The class is free, with registration through Austin Youth Fitness.
