Families can come and go over two hours to enjoy festive food, make arts and crafts together, meet the library staff and the library's mental health peer support specialists, and learn Riichi (Japanese) mahjong with the South Austin Japanese Club. The Starlight Symphony Orchestra performs partway through the evening. The library describes the open house as free and as having something all ages can enjoy, so it works for young children with their parents as well as teens and grandparents. Because it is a come-and-go event, families can stop in for a craft and a snack, stay for the orchestra, and browse the shelves before heading home. ## Similar picks in Austin - [Holiday Sing-Along & Downtown Stroll 2026](https://grassyknees.com/austin/activities/holiday-sing-along-and-downtown-stroll-2026--listing-b8cb4d270822d324c42bc8b6) — Sat, Dec 5 · 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM · Congress Avenue at the Old Bakery and Emporium · checked Oct 28.
