Monsters in Newport is the City of Newport Parks & Recreation Department's free community Halloween parade, and anyone in costume can march in it. On Sunday, October 25, participants assemble at 1 p.m. in the Newport Intermediate School parking lot at 95 West 9th Street, then parade down Columbia Street to the USS Nightmare. The city's invitation goes out to 'ghosts, goblins, superheroes and monsters,' so it suits children of any age who want to show off a costume, with grown-ups walking along. Participation is free and the listing does not mention registration, so families can simply turn up in costume at the start. It falls a week before Halloween, so it works as a dress rehearsal for trick-or-treat night. For details, contact Newport Parks & Recreation at 859-292-3686 or kcolston@newportky.gov.
