Newport Parks & Recreation runs its Halloween pumpkin contest over two evenings. Participants prepare and decorate their pumpkins on Wednesday, October 21, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Newport Primary School, 1102 York Street. The finished pumpkins are then judged during the Pumpkin Walk on Thursday, October 22, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Newport Intermediate School parking lot at 95 West 9th Street, where the community can walk past the entries. It is a simple, hands-on Halloween project for kids who like to carve or paint, and the one-hour Pumpkin Walk is a short early-evening outing the whole family can join. The city's calendar lists it as a pumpkin carving contest and does not give a fee, age limits or sign-up steps; call Newport Parks & Recreation at 859-292-3686 with questions.
