Independence Parks and Recreation offers a one-day introductory cooking class for children ages 5 to 12 in the Lodge at George Owens Nature Park. Kids learn about flavour combinations and how foods work together, then make a simple recipe themselves, so they leave with a small dish and a few new kitchen skills. All ingredients are provided. The class runs one hour, from 5 to 6 p.m. on Friday, November 6. Parents may drop off or stay for the session. Registration is required by October 30 and costs $10 per child; sign up online or by calling (816) 325-7115.
