Festivities start at 5:30 pm with performances by local school choirs and dance troupes and other holiday entertainment, building up to the lighting of the tree and a visit from Santa, which makes it a natural first-holiday outing for preschoolers and grade-schoolers. The evening is the main fundraiser of the Prairie Village Foundation, which helps residents in need with utilities, rent and food and supports local parks, arts and youth programs, so families who want to can bring a donation. It is an outdoor evening event in early December: bundle up, and arrive a little early if you want a spot near the stage. ## Similar picks in Kansas City - [Holiday Lights + Festive Sights (Mission Mayor's Tree Lighting)](https://grassyknees.com/kansas-city/activities/holiday-lights-festive-sights-mission-mayor-s-tree-lighting--listing-6f5ee5418b5a125d0879b5b1) — Fri, Dec 4 · 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM · Powell Community Center, Mission · Free · checked Oct 14.
