Children who are practising reading can read aloud to a registered therapy dog or cat at Leawood Pioneer Library. The Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) program pairs young readers with volunteer animals and their handlers, a low-pressure way to build reading confidence and communication skills. Pick up a ticket on arrival and wait for your turn with one of several animals. It runs 4 to 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3; no registration is required.
