KidScape is a hands-on play space where children explore a small-scale historic Johnson County, and on these mornings the museum disables noisy interactives, lowers lights in some spaces, caps attendance at 30 people and sets aside a low-sensory break room and a designated quiet space. Families can pick up sensory bags, a sensory-friendly map, a visual checklist and social narrative guides (also downloadable in advance to prepare a child for the visit), and are welcome to bring fidgets, headphones, weighted blankets or vests and mobility devices and to come and go as they need. The program runs in partnership with Britain Development, a program of AdventHealth Shawnee Mission.
