For Native American Heritage Month, Clark County Library's main theater hosts Derrick Suwaima Davis and his son Sooya Davis (Hopi/Choctaw), who share Hopi culture through words, music and dance. Derrick is a seven-time Hoop Dance World Champion who maneuvers five rattan hoops around his body to tell the Hopi story of creation; Sooya is a singer, musician and champion of the Men's Fancy Dance, one of the most popular contemporary powwow dances. The 40-minute performance is presented as a program for all ages and suits school-age kids who enjoy dance and live music. It is free and open to the public; seating is first come, first served. The same performers also appear at Whitney Library (Nov 10) and Sunrise Library (Nov 12).
