Directed and choreographed by Jennifer Weber, the show remixes the classic: a dozen hip hop dancers, a DJ and an electric violinist carry Tchaikovsky's score, while Maria-Clara and the Nutcracker Prince battle a gang of mice and visit the land of sweets, with digital graffiti projections moving the story from 19th-century Germany to the sights and sounds of a modern city. Hip hop pioneer Kurtis Blow opens the show as MC. Billed as a holiday mash-up for the whole family, it suits school-age kids and teens who might find a traditional ballet slow. Doors open at 6 pm for a 7 pm start; street parking is limited, so the B41/B49/B103 buses or the subway are the easier way in. ## Similar picks in New York - [The Nutcracker with Live Orchestra — American Repertory Ballet at State Theatre New Jersey](https://grassyknees.com/new-york/activities/the-nutcracker-with-live-orchestra-american-repertory-ballet-at-state--listing-f2c347f8b116335c416ef489) — Thu, Dec 17 (+3 more dates) · 7:00 PM · State Theatre New Jersey, New Brunswick · Paid · checked Oct 16.
