The ballet follows Clara and the Nutcracker Prince on their Christmas Eve journey to the Land of Sweets, and the Basie calls it a favorite tradition for performers and families alike, so expect many local young dancers on stage alongside the leads — a draw for children who take dance classes themselves. Afternoon shows at 1 pm on Saturday and Sunday are the best pick for younger children; there is also a Friday 7 pm and a Saturday 5 pm performance. Doors open an hour before each show in the Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre. Tickets are sold through Ticketmaster and the Basie box office (732-842-9000). This is a different production from American Repertory Ballet's Nutcracker at Two River Theater in the same town. ## Similar picks in New York - [Keith Michael's The Nutcracker — New York Theatre Ballet at Kupferberg Center, Queens](https://grassyknees.com/new-york/activities/keith-michael-s-the-nutcracker-new-york-theatre-ballet-at-kupferberg-c--listing-abf7ecf930882576365a4af2) — Fri, Dec 4 · 7:00 PM · Colden Auditorium, Kupferberg Center for the Arts (Queens College), Flushing · Ages 3+ · From $25 · checked Oct 24.
