Cha-Pyo, music director) and Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn's swinging jazz Nutcracker Suite played by the NJYS Jazz Orchestra (Shamie Royston, director). The NJYS Youth Orchestra under Oliver Hagen opens with works by Coleridge-Taylor, Rachmaninoff and Humperdinck. Because every musician is a student, it is an inspiring concert for children who play an instrument themselves, and hearing the classical and jazz versions back to back makes the music easy for young listeners to follow. The concert runs about 90 minutes on a Sunday afternoon; groups of seven or more can request a group reservation. ## Similar picks in New York - [The Nutcracker with the New Jersey Symphony — New Jersey Ballet at Mayo PAC](https://grassyknees.com/new-york/activities/the-nutcracker-with-the-new-jersey-symphony-new-jersey-ballet-at-mayo--listing-fe0a121cf497af0112ea306c) — Dec 11 – Dec 27 · Mayo Performing Arts Center, Morristown · All ages · From $45 · checked Oct 16.
