The hour-long morning gathering honors people who have served in the U.S. armed forces; members of Apex public safety, the Town Council and the community share words, and the program includes moments of reflection at the memorial. For families it is a short, respectful way to explain Veterans Day to children, and Scouts, students and young people with veterans in the family often attend; the memorial is in historic downtown Apex, so it is easy to stay for breakfast or a walk on Salem Street afterward. Salem Street and part of Saunders Street close for the ceremony; if the weather is bad it moves indoors to Apex Fire Station 1 at 210 N. Salem Street. ## Similar picks in Raleigh - [Veterans Day Train Rides at New Hope Valley Railway](https://grassyknees.com/raleigh/activities/veterans-day-train-rides-at-new-hope-valley-railway--listing-4f7cd370a18e5055e4e1f434) — Wed, Nov 11 · New Hope Valley Railway (North Carolina Railway Museum), New Hill · All ages · With admission · checked Oct 30.
