Families can explore the exhibit gallery with a holiday-themed scavenger hunt, make historically inspired ornaments at craft tables, and try historic games of the kind farm children played generations ago. It is a relaxed, drop-in day that suits elementary-age children who like hunting for clues and making something to take home, and younger siblings can join in the crafts with help. The open house runs from 10 am to 4 pm; admission is free and donations are appreciated. The museum's farmstead buildings and gallery tell the story of rural family life from the 1800s into the 20th century, so it also makes a good short history lesson over winter break. ## Similar picks in Raleigh - [Gingerbread Jamboree at Marbles Kids Museum](https://grassyknees.com/raleigh/activities/gingerbread-jamboree-at-marbles-kids-museum--listing-6c8e3168d01eaa4ce168e861) — Sat, Dec 12 (+1 more date) · 9:30 AM · Marbles Kids Museum — IMAX Building (Venture Hall) · From $18 · checked Oct 27.
