## About

For Día de Muertos, Southwestern College's student Mariachi Garibaldi, directed by Jeffrey Nevin, shares the stage with the Classics 4 Kids Philharmonic Orchestra under Dana Zimbric for a free evening concert at the college's Performing Arts Center in Chula Vista. The program honors the centennial of the births of three legendary Mexican composers, Rubén Fuentes, José Alfredo Jiménez and Tomás Méndez, with songs arranged for mariachi and full orchestra, and student musicians perform side by side with the orchestra's professional players. It is an approachable way for families to hear mariachi and symphonic music together and to mark the holiday, especially for children who play an instrument or take music at school. Admission is free with no reservations, seating is first come, first served, so arrive early for good seats, and parking is free in Lot O. The concert runs about an hour and a half on a school night.
