The tradition dates back to 1945, when a decorated cedar tree marked the start of the season. ## Similar picks in Virginia Beach - [Poquoson Kiwanis Frosty Festival and City Christmas Tree Lighting](https://grassyknees.com/virginia-beach/activities/poquoson-kiwanis-frosty-festival-and-city-christmas-tree-lighting--listing-f2f541b89d08ebfa831c7f98) — Thu, Dec 3 · 6:00 PM · Poquoson City Hall · checked Oct 27.
