Leander's all-day Christmas festival fills Old Town on the first Saturday of December. The city and the Leander Chamber of Commerce schedule the Old Town Rudolph Run (a flat, chip-timed 5K at 10 a.m.), a Christmas Marketplace with holiday vendors, children's activities, live music, theater and crafts from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., a hometown holiday parade at 1 p.m. with an award for the best float featuring kids, pictures with Santa, and at 6:30 p.m. the lighting of Leander's 60-foot Christmas tree followed by a screening of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964) on the big screen with hot chocolate. Families can come for the parade and Santa in the afternoon or for the tree lighting and movie in the evening. The 5K requires registration and a fee through RunSignUp; the festival itself has no stated admission fee. The Leander Police Blue Santa toy drive collects new toys during the season.
