Art Encounters are artist-led evenings at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, inspired by art on view and focused on creating community. Participants choose how to take part, making art or simply observing; supplies are provided and the program is open to all ages. On Thursday, October 29, Houston mixed-media artist Jordan "J Lū" Lumpkins leads a session inspired by the exhibition American Modernism from the Charles Butt Collection, in which participants work together in a communal setting to create a mixed-media painting on a textured canvas. A second session is listed for Thursday, November 12; its theme is not yet described. Both run from 6 to 8 p.m. and meet on the Lower Level of the Kinder Building. The program is included with museum admission, and on Thursdays admission to the MFAH permanent collections is free.
