Houston's annual Veterans Day celebration takes place downtown on Wednesday, November 11, 2026. A ceremony with acknowledgements and a keynote speaker begins at 10 a.m., with a moment of silence at the 11th hour to mark the Armistice that ended World War I. At 11:30 a.m. the American Heroes Parade steps off at Dallas and Bagby, heading east on Dallas, north on Louisiana, west on Walker, south on Smith and west on Lamar, ending at Lamar and Bagby. Veteran organizations, ROTC units and bands march, and the public is welcome anywhere along the route. It is a meaningful outing for school-age children learning about military service; schools may be in session that day, so check your district calendar. Street closures begin at 9 a.m.
