The Wilderness Run is a KC Parks trail race on the grounds of Shoal Creek Living History Museum in the Northland, with a 2-mile and a 5-mile course over trails and natural terrain. It is open to runners age 6 and up, so older children can take on the shorter course with a parent while teens try the longer distance. Check-in opens at 7 a.m. and the race starts at 9 a.m. Fees rise as race day approaches: from October 21 the 2-mile is $30 and the 5-mile $35; from November 4 they are $35 and $40; on race day $40 and $45. Register through KC Parks with activity code 263540113. Expect uneven ground, mud or leaves in November, and dress in layers.
