For families whose children will be asleep long before midnight, the Goodsprings Library rings in 2027 early. Neighbors gather in front of the library at 3:30 pm on New Year's Eve and count down to the new year together at 4 pm, then keep celebrating with family and friends until the library closes early for the holiday. It is a short, simple afternoon party in the small mountain town of Goodsprings, southwest of Las Vegas, and works for babies through grandparents. The event is free and open to the public; seating is limited and first come, first served, so arrive a little early or bring a folding chair.
