A four-part nature journaling series led by a Southern Nevada Conservancy interpretive naturalist at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, focused on the colorful lichen crusts that grow on the canyon's rocks. Each session has its own theme: Structure (October 18), Patterns & Diagrams (October 25), Colors (November 1) and Microscopic (November 8). Participants walk part of a moderate-to-difficult trail (the group does not plan to hike the whole trail) and stop to sketch and record what they see; hand lenses are handed out for close-up looking. Bring your own nature journal and supplies if you have them; extra supplies are offered. Attending every session is encouraged but not required. The program has an age limit of 13+, so it suits teens with an interest in art or natural science, alongside adults. The trail location is sent after registration. The program itself is free, but advance registration through the Red Rock TimeTap program site and a Scenic Drive timed-entry reservation from recreation.gov are both required. Dress for the weather and bring sun protection and water.
