The Santa Ana Zoo's evening Halloween festival, billed as 'OC's Premier Halloween Event for Kids!', is a 'Merry not Scary' trick-or-treat night for young children. Kids collect goodies at ten toy and treat stations around the zoo, and the grounds are decorated with lights; the zoo also lists nocturnal animal presentations and a scavenger hunt. The Boofari Express Train, Conservation Carrousel and Fifty Monkey Ferris Wheel run all evening. Everyone is encouraged to come in costume, but costumes should be child-friendly and not obtrusive, offensive or violent, and balloons are not allowed. The event is a fundraiser for the zoo's primate habitats, requires a separate ticket from regular admission (tickets are non-refundable), and offers discounts for Friends of Santa Ana Zoo members and Santa Ana residents. The last two nights of the four-night run fall on October 24 and 25.
