Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens

Morikami welcomes the Japanese New Year, and the start of its 50th-anniversary year, with a day of traditional activities. Children can watch mochitsuki, the pounding of steamed rice into mochi with a wooden mallet (11 am and 1:30 pm), fly kites in the garden from 10 am to 4:30 pm, and make a hagoita paddle to play hanetsuki at a Family Fun Day station in the Sakai Room (11 am–4 pm). There are also koto concerts by Morikami students (12 and 2:30 pm, $5 extra) and a ceremonial Omato-shiki archery demonstration (12 and 2:30 pm). Most activities are included with museum admission.
