Tamarack Nature Center runs two-hour public homeschool nature programs on select Fridays, with morning (9:30-11:30 a.m.) and afternoon (1-3 p.m.) sessions for ages 5 to 8; a separate track for ages 9 to 12 meets in the afternoons only. Each pair of Fridays has its own theme. Apple-luscious (Oct 23 and 30): visit the mini apple orchard, make fresh-pressed cider in the Garden House and put the garden to bed for winter. Map Making (Nov 6 and 20). Rascally Rodents (Dec 4 and 18): search Tamarack's forests, prairie and wetlands for rodent tracks, tunnels, nests and scat, and run an experiment on how rodents survive the cold; this program is outside, so dress for the weather. Winter Backwoods Survival (Jan 8). Each session costs $15 and needs an online account to register.
