The Altamonte Springs Police Department hosts a free Veterans Day ceremony on the lower level of Altamonte Mall, next to Dillard's. The program includes a guest speaker, retired U.S. Navy Master Chief Claudal Daniels, the ASPD Honor Guard presentation of colors, a POW presentation by Winter Springs High School students, and recognition of honored veterans and special military guests. It lasts about an hour and a half and takes place indoors, which makes it an easy, weather-proof way to introduce school-age children to what Veterans Day is about. Families with a veteran relative may find it especially meaningful. Seating is not described, so arrive early if you need a chair.
