A Delaware Canal State Park naturalist leads an evening of autumn stargazing on Thursday, October 22, from 6 to 8 pm. The group meets in the parking lot of the Giving Pond Recreation Area on River Road in Upper Black Eddy and walks about a quarter mile along the trail to the first picnic area on the peninsula, then looks for celestial objects while hearing how people have been fascinated by the stars throughout history. All ages are welcome and registration is required through the DCNR listing. About 12 binoculars are available to borrow, and participants may bring their own binoculars or telescopes. Wear walking shoes and warm layers, bring water and snacks and carry out your trash; there is a portable toilet on site. The listing does not mention a fee.
