One-day winter-break camps at the National Aviary, billed as a 'greatest hits' of its summer camp. Campers learn how birds survive the winter through guided learning sessions and hands-on science activities, and get up-close Animal Encounters, including a chance to meet an African Penguin. Monday, December 28 and Tuesday, December 29 are for ages 6–8; Wednesday, December 30 is for ages 9–12. Each day runs 9 am to 3 pm and children bring a packed lunch from home. The fee covers general admission, supplies and time to explore the free-flight habitats. Members register through their member profile. The Aviary notes it is not an allergen-free facility because many bird diets include nuts and seeds.
