Oregon Metro's free nature walk at Newell Creek Canyon Nature Park in Oregon City is led by local nature educator Gladys Ruiz. Rather than a checklist-style bird count, the outing looks at the ways people have formed relationships with birds: participants use their own senses, question conventional ideas about birding, and share stories about birds, migration and community. Metro rates the walk easy and open to all ages, with minors accompanied by an adult, so it works for families with children who are curious about birds but new to birding. The group meets at the park's picnic area. Space is limited and advance registration is required through Metro. The walk runs from 10 a.m. to noon; dress for November weather. Metro does not allow pets at this park (service animals are welcome), and interpretation or disability accommodations can be requested at least three business days ahead.
