This follow-up workshop from Oregon Metro is meant for people who have already taken Metro's introductory 'Fly fishing: Learn the basics' class with fisheries biologist and educator Anna Le. At Blue Lake Regional Park in Fairview, participants practice reading water to find fish, look closely at aquatic insects (macroinvertebrates), tie knots, and get coaching in casting and retrieving on land and on the water's edge. Metro notes there is no fishing or in-water activity during the workshop, and all materials are provided. Ages 7 and older can join, and minors must be accompanied by an adult, which makes it a good parent-and-child outing for families who started fly fishing this fall. Two sessions are offered on Sunday, November 8: 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. The class is free, but the park charges a parking fee. Registration is required and space is limited.
