Diablo Ballet opens its 33rd season with The Nutcracker Suite, Julia Adam's reimagining of the holiday classic, now expanded into a two-act ballet with new choreography and costumes. This version is set in the 1950s at San Francisco's Fairmont Hotel, where the Diablo family checks into the Nutcracker Suite on Christmas Eve: Drosselmeyer is the concierge, a bellhop becomes the Nutcracker and hotel maids dance the Kingdom of the Sweets. The show runs about 1 hour 30 minutes with one intermission, a manageable length for younger audience members. After the Saturday 2 pm matinee, ticketholders are invited to a free post-performance party in the Lesher Center lobby with a cast meet-and-greet, a ballet class demonstration and autograph signing. Buy tickets only through the Lesher Center box office.
