Apollo Beach Park & Recreation Center's annual community holiday evening, which Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation says has run for more than 14 years. Families get free food, arts and crafts, small gifts, face painting, a photo booth and the chance to take pictures with Santa, all on the grounds of the recreation center, which also has a playground, splash pad and paved trail. It is a low-key neighborhood alternative to the big downtown celebrations and works well for toddlers through elementary-age children. No registration is needed and there is no minimum age; the county charges $1 for everyone ages 5 and older. Questions go to the center at (813) 981-4201.
