Montgomery Parks' Roots to Rocks bike program offers free Learn to Ride sessions at Black Hill Regional Park in Boyds on Sunday, October 18 and Saturday, November 21, 2026, from 10 am to noon. Certified bike coaches teach the basics of biking to participants ages 6 and up. A limited number of bikes and helmets can be borrowed (staff hold a phone or card as collateral); riders bringing their own bike must make sure it is in safe working order. Participants need closed-toe shoes and their own water bottle; sunscreen, bike gloves and above-the-ankle socks are recommended. Registration is required, and the program may be cancelled or adjusted for bad weather.
