A one-hour ranger craft program in the Lost Pines. Families learn about some of the bat species that live in Texas, then each child builds a bat of their own to take home. The program meets at the picnic tables across from the park playground, so it is easy to combine with playground time or a short walk. It runs from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on the Saturday before Halloween, which makes it a gentle, non-scary seasonal activity for preschoolers and early-elementary kids. The program itself is free once the park entrance fee has been paid at headquarters; children 12 and under enter free.
