It's a bug-eat-bug world on this one-mile guided hike with a Lost Pines Master Naturalist. Using close observation, the group hunts for the tiny critters living at their feet and in forest plants, identifies them and learns how small predators and their prey live. Kids who like magnifying glasses and creepy-crawlies will enjoy it. The page rates the route moderate, with elevation changes, steps, steep inclines and rocky and sandy tread, and says it is not stroller friendly, so it fits walking-age children and up. Bring closed-toe shoes, bottled water and sunscreen. Meet at the playground area of Bastrop State Park at 10 am; the hike runs until about 11:30.
