A slow, family-friendly guided hike in Bastrop State Park where the aim is noticing rather than covering distance. A Lost Pines Master Naturalist leads the group along about one mile of trail, practising curiosity with eyes, ears and noses and talking about how wonder and connection to nature shape the way we experience the world. The loop follows the Piney Hill Spur, Scenic Overlook and Pine Warbler trails, with rocky and sandy tread, two low-water crossings and one steep climb, ending near the restroom and playground. Plan on 1 to 1.5 hours; closed-toe shoes and bottled water are recommended. A calm December outing for school-age kids before the holidays.
