About Grassy Knees
Grassy Knees is a directory of real family events, places and programs for kids across major U.S. metro areas, where every listing is researched from the organizer’s own page and shows the date we last checked it.
It’s for parents and caregivers deciding what to do with kids this weekend: zoo and museum days, library programs, festivals, nature walks, classes, seasonal events like Halloween, holiday lights, ice skating and Easter egg hunts, and the places worth going back to.
What’s on it
- 32 metro areas, the largest in the U.S. by population, with more being added.
- 12,045 current listings across 1,576 towns and neighborhoods, including 6,441 dated events in the next 30 days, 1,860 of them free.
- Each listing gives the venue and address, dates and times in local time, the organizer’s age guidance and price, and the link to register or buy tickets.
These numbers are read live from our catalog. Per-metro counts are in our open data.
How listings are kept
- Listings are researched from organizers’ own pages: parks and recreation departments, public libraries, museums, zoos, gardens, nature centers and venues. We don’t copy listings from other directories.
- Every listing links to its source and shows the date we last checked it (the latest check was Thu, Oct 22).
- Listings are re-checked on a daily research run, and new events are added as organizers post them. Sold-out and cancelled events are marked as such.
- Ended events stay up, marked as ended, so last year’s details are still there when you plan for next year.
- Organizers can list their own events; each is reviewed before it appears. Paid placements are labeled Featured or Sponsored.
