A Lost Pines Master Naturalist leads a 1 to 1.5 mile hike through Buescher State Park explaining which plants in the forest are edible and which are inedible or poisonous — what those pretty berries are, whether birds and people can eat them and how they would be prepared. Picking or foraging is illegal in Texas state parks, so participants learn by looking, not tasting, and are encouraged to grow native edible plants at home. The hike is rated easy with some elevation change, uneven ground and steps, and lasts about an hour to an hour and a half. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Meet hike leaders in Master Naturalist name tags at the Scenic Overlook parking area; restrooms are at the playground, not at the trailhead.
