The North American touring production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's The Sound of Music plays Baltimore's Hippodrome Theatre for one week in early January, a good post-holiday outing for families. The story follows a spirited nun who becomes governess to the von Trapp children, with songs such as "Do-Re-Mi," "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" and "Edelweiss." The Hippodrome recommends it for ages 7 and up and advises that the production depicts Nazi iconography and references and uses flashing lights. Performances: Tuesday–Thursday January 5–7 at 7:30 p.m., Friday January 8 at 8 p.m., Saturday January 9 at 2 and 8 p.m., and Sunday January 10 at 1 and 6:30 p.m. The weekend matinees are the easiest fit for younger theatergoers. The show runs about 2 hours 40 minutes with one intermission. Tickets are sold through the Hippodrome Broadway Series.
