Miss Allie leads children through turning small cardboard boxes into decorative gingerbread houses at the Johnston Square branch. Instead of icing and candy, kids use polymer clay and resin candies, so the finished houses are completely inedible keepsakes. Children can take their creation home, or leave it behind to help decorate the library for winter. The hour-long session in the children's area is tagged for kids ages 6–8 and 9–11, a good fit for early elementary and upper elementary crafters who can handle small pieces. It is a hands-on way to get into the holiday season without the sugar rush of a traditional gingerbread project.
