About this adventure

The Sykesville Holiday Marketplace fills Shipley Arena at the Carroll County Agriculture Center in Westminster with more than 180 selected vendors for one Saturday of holiday shopping right after Thanksgiving. The organizers bill it as family friendly: children can visit with Santa and get free face painting, and there are big raffle tables with prizes plus food and drinks for sale. Stalls range from handmade crafts, ornaments, Christmas decorations, woodturning and painted crab shells to books, children's items, specialty foods and desserts, candles, knitted and crocheted pieces, and direct-sale brands. Because the arena is indoors it runs rain or shine, which makes it an easy outing with kids in late-November weather. Pets are not allowed — service animals only — so leave the dog at home.
