On MLK weekend, Bright Star Touring Theatre performs Freedom Songs, a short play with music that traces Black music in America. It moves from work songs in the fields during slavery and coded hymns of the Underground Railroad through ragtime, jazz and R&B to the spirituals of the Civil Rights Movement. The company recommends it for third graders through adults. The performance is Saturday, Jan. 16, from 1 to 2 p.m. in the library atrium.
