The Dallas Opera brings back its 50-minute family version of Rachel Portman's opera The Little Prince at the Winspear Opera House on Sunday, November 8, 2026, at 2 p.m. Based on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's children's book, the story follows the Little Prince and his pilot friend as they learn about caring and friendship from a fox, a snake and a very chatty rose. This shortened version was adapted for young audiences by Mary Dibbern, with libretto by Nicholas Wright, and The Dallas Opera Orchestra plays live. It's sung in English with English titles and runs about 50 minutes with no intermission. That's a good first opera for school-age children, and confident preschoolers may manage it too.
