Lakewood Lights is the City of Lakewood's free holiday kickoff at Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park, the city's 20th-century history museum grounds. On Thursday, December 3, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, families gather at the gazebo for a lighting ceremony with holiday carols, then stroll among light displays, with the park's Colfax Hub section open to visitors, while live festive music plays. Free hot cocoa and cookies are served in the historic diner (a $1 donation is suggested), and children can make an ornament to take home. Santa greets visitors in his workshop at the Heritage Lakewood Visitor Center from 3:00 to 8:00 pm on a first-come, first-served basis; staff take a name and cell number and text when it is your turn, so families can enjoy the lights while they wait. Sensory-friendly Santa visits are held from 3:00 to 5:00 pm for children who need a calmer setting. Much of the event is outdoors, so dress warmly. Guests needing accommodations should call the front desk at least 48 hours ahead.
