For the whole month of November, Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster releases monarch butterflies into its Wings of the Tropics conservatory, where they fly alongside the thousands of tropical butterflies that already live there. Monarch Magic combines the ecology of North America's best-known migratory butterfly with its place in Mexican culture: in partnership with the Chicano Humanities and Arts Council, a community ofrenda (altar) for Día de los Muertos invites visitors to leave notes remembering loved ones. Children can look for the orange-and-black monarchs among the other species and learn why milkweed and native nectar plants matter for the wild population; the zoo explains that the released monarchs were bred at butterfly farms and cannot migrate. The exhibition runs November 1–30, 2026 during regular hours (9:00 am–5:00 pm daily with timed entry, last admission 4:15 pm; closed Thanksgiving Day). General admission is $19.45 for adults, $14.45 for children 2–12, $17.45 for seniors and free under 2, with $5 SNAP/EBT tickets.
