Leawood's holiday season kicks off with Mayor Marc Elkins and the City Council lighting up City Hall. Families gather outside City Hall for cookies, hot drinks and carols sung by local students, then help switch on the building's holiday lights. The ceremony is short - about 45 minutes, from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, November 16 - so it works well for young children on a school night. No tickets or registration are listed on the city calendar; dress for the weather.
