Henderson Libraries and the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve run a 1-mile, self-guided StoryWalk around Pond 1, with a new picture book posted along the path every month. Families can walk it any time during the preserve's normal operating hours, reading page by page while looking out for the water birds the preserve is known for. On the second Friday of every month the preserve classroom adds a set-up of arts and crafts and literacy activities, and visitors are encouraged to say hello to Tino the Tortoise. Everyone is welcome, which makes it a good stroller-friendly outing for preschoolers and early readers. Classroom seating is limited, so pre-registration through City of Henderson Parks and Recreation is required for the second-Friday activities. The next classroom date in the library calendar is Friday, November 13.
