During tarantula mating season, a BLM park ranger leads a 1.5-mile (2.4 km) trail walk with 200 ft elevation gain to learn about tarantulas, their behavior and role in the ecosystem, and maybe spot one on the move. Part of the hike is after sunset, so bring a flashlight; some uneven terrain and loose gravel. Not on the Scenic Drive, so no Scenic Drive fee.
