For Halloween weekend the Ocean Institute in Dana Point runs Harbor Hayrides: 45-minute evening cruises around Dana Point Harbor aboard its research vessel R/V Sea Explorer. Families sip apple cider, get temporary tattoos and join activities on deck while the boat cruises the harbor; drinks are also sold on board. A Harbor Hayride ticket includes entry to Spooky Seas, the Ocean Institute's Halloween event on the same evening, so families can combine the boat ride with the on-shore festivities. Three sailings depart at 5, 6 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $35 for children and adults and $10 for infants and toddlers up to 18 months, so even babies need a ticket.
