The day after Halloween, Pan Pacific Recreation Center in the Fairfax district hosts its 4th annual Great Pumpkin Bash, a composting event and community festival. Bring your leftover jack-o'-lanterns and smash them; the City of Los Angeles hauls the remains to its composting facility. Around the smashing there are game booths, music, arts and crafts, community partner booths, bouncy houses, contests, costume contests and snacks. It runs 11 am to 3 pm on Sunday, November 1, for all ages, and entry is free—a hands-on way to show kids where food waste goes.
